Since its launch in 2010, the original Red Dead Redemption has been widely regarded as one of the best open world games around, and one of Rockstar’s best efforts to date, which, in turn, means fans of the Wild West epic have been desperate for an updated release of the title on modern platforms. And though there’s been little reason to be hopeful on that front up to this point, interestingly enough, recent developments might be hinting at a shift in the situation.

As reported by Gematsu, the original Red Dead Redemption has received a fresh certification rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, which was published on June 15, less than two weeks ago, suggesting that Rockstar might be preparing to announce a remaster or re-release of the title.

The classification number for the fresh rating suggests a PC port, a platform that Red Dead Redemption still hasn’t launched for to this day, though as Gematsu notes, that doesn’t necessarily mean that console versions also don’t exist.

Interestingly enough, ratings for both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the original Red Dead Redemption, and subsequent re-releases in Undead Nightmare Collection and Game of the Year Edition, already exist in the GRAC database, which means this rating is definitely a new one.

Rumours emerging a little over a year ago claimed that Rockstar was working on remasters of both, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, though not long afterward, it was claimed that plans for both remasters had been shelved, with the company instead choosing to focus on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6.

GTA 6 itself has yet to be officially unveieled, though reports have indicated that it could launch sometime between April 2024 and March 2025.
