From its steady stream of character introduction trailers to gameplay showings to new gameplay tidbits being shared here and there, Mortal Kombat 1 has looked increasingly promising in all that we’ve seen of it so far. But while we have, of course, learned plenty about its story, its rebooted universe, its roster, and some of its biggest gameplay changes, one area where we’re still almost completely in the dark is what modes the game will have on offer.

However, it seems new details have emerged on one of the game’s single player modes. As spotted by a user on RedditMortal Kombat 1 was recently put up for pre-orders by some retailers in Brazil, with images of the game’s physical box being shown on the game’s listings. Interestingly enough, the back of the box mentions a new single player mode called Invasions, which, according to the short description accompanying a screenshot, will see players “travel through the realms of Mortal Kombat” and face different challenges across multiple seasons.

Based on that brief description, Invasions seems to be taking cues from a few modes in previous titles, including the Krypt and Konquest. Exactly what form it will end up taking remains to be seen, but it does seem to be the flagship single player mode for the upcoming instalment. Of course, with Mortal Kombat 1 set to launch a little over a month from now on September 19, it likely won’t be too long before NetherRealm Studios and WB Games share official details.

Mortal Kombat 1 is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A closed beta is set for August 18-21.
